What happens when we become deeply present—to our bodies, our breath, our inner life, and the living world around us?

Qigong offers a way to explore this question through movement, breath, sound, meditation, and the cultivation of consciousness.

At Mountain Qi, we practice Zhineng Qigong not only as a path of healing and awakening, we also explore our relationship with the living world.

When we slow down and become more receptive, nature can become more than the setting in which we practice. It can become part of the experience itself.

A Practice of Becoming More Present

Qigong brings together body, breath, qi, and consciousness.

Through movement and meditation, breathing, sound and other healing practices, we cultivate a clear observer state of consciousness from which new possibilities can emerge.

Practicing together also creates a sense of connection with others—a supportive community in which we can explore and grow.

And when we practice in nature, another dimension opens. We have the opportunity to become quiet enough to sense ourselves in relationship with something larger.

QIGONG IN NATURE

What happens when we practice in relationship with the living world?

I especially love practicing and teaching qigong outdoors.

In nature, we can allow our attention to expand beyond the boundaries of the individual body. The trees, water, sky, earth, sounds, light, wind, and changing seasons become part of our sensory experience.

Through periods of movement, meditation, and solo time in contemplation of nature, we can begin to notice our relationship with the more-than-human world in a new way.

This exploration draws on both ancient qigong practices and my doctoral research into human experience of nature.

The intention is not simply to practice qigong in nature, but to discover what becomes possible when we consciously open ourselves to an exchange with the living world.

CURRENT OFFERINGS

Exchanging Qi with Nature and the Universe

A Five-session Exploration of our relationship with qi, Consciousness and the Living World

This is a course that combines foundational practices and theory of Zhineng Qigong. Each session will offer teaching and practice of methods for gathering, strengthening, and circulating internal qi as we prepare for the colder months ahead. Practices will include:

  • Lift Qi Up, Pour Qi Down — the foundational movement flow of Zhineng Qigong

  • Guided meditation

  • Conscious breathing

  • Toning

  • Basic healing techniques

  • Foundational Qigong Science

A special part of the course will be guided solo time with nature, drawing both on ancient qigong practices and on my doctoral research into the human experience of nature. This is an opportunity not simply to practice qigong in nature, but to explore what happens when we consciously open ourselves to an exchange of qi with the living world around us.

We will practice outdoors as long as the weather allows, moving indoors when necessary. Everyone is welcome—from those who are completely new to qigong to experienced practitioners.

If you are interested in this class but need another time during the week, please email me with days and times you would be able to attend. If there is enough interest, I will offer the class on a weekday

Qigong in Nature Class

Continuing through September 26, 2026

If you want to have more energy, to feel more alive and connected, there's no better way than doing qigong in a natural setting. When we practice in nature, we draw directly on its pure energy and expand our boundaries to include all of life.

On Saturday mornings, we meet in the beautiful, secluded Stratton Nature Area to do qigong, connecting with nature to gather its pure energy for improving health and awakening our deeper consciousness. Our practices include guided and silent meditation, breathing, sound and simple meditative movements and healing methods that unify body, energy and consciousness. In this open and unified state, we connect with nature together and in solo time, and share our experiences in a supportive group environment.

When: Saturday mornings from 10 AM to 12 noon through September 26, 2026.

Where: Old Stratton Park, located at 1819 W. Cheyenne Rd, just east of the Starsmore Discovery Center. If needed, we will move inside to a location that will be announced.

What to bring: 1) A stool, folding chair, exercise ball, mat or blanket to sit on outdoors; 2) water; and 3) whatever you need to protect from sun, wind, light rain or cold, depending on the weather.

MEET YOUR TEACHER

Patricia Seator

I discovered Zhineng Qigong in 2001 and recognized in it a way of bringing together many of the practices and studies that had shaped my life for the previous two decades.

My teaching now centers especially on the consciousness practices of Zhineng Qigong—practices that deepen our experience of body, qi, and awareness and open possibilities for healing and awakening.

With an emphasis in Environmental Psychology and Creativity in my doctoral program, I am also deeply interested in our experience of nature and the living world.

I especially love bringing these two paths together.
